Workers @ MMC Vote and Decide to Do Whatever It Takes!
Local 205 is in contract negotiations with Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN and Management's proposals are not being well-received by workers there.
Over the last several weeks, the unit's Bargaining Team has put in countless hours working on proposals, conducting surveys, signing up dozens of new union members, and talking with their co-workers about the concessions that MMC's parent corporation, Covenant Health, is demanding of them despite their hard work and years of service.
With the Agreement set to expire on Oct. 10, the workers took a vote on whether to authorize the Bargaining Team to issue a 10-day strike notice with Intent to Strike should negotiations collapse. Today's election was the largest turnout in the history of MMC and the results landed the largest majority in the history of the union. After the poll was closed and the votes were counted, 97% of the voters in each unit voted YES to issue a 10-day notice with Intent to Strike!
The message that the members at MMC have sent to Covenant is crystal clear: we will do whatever it takes until the company does the right thing and agrees to be reasonable.
Negotiations will continue next week and this historic show of solidarity proves the SEIU slogan correct: We are stronger together!
